A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is the highest academic achievement obtained by students. While pursuing a Ph.D. programme, candidates who have passed admission exams such as the UGC NET, GATE, JEST, and others are frequently given fellowships. In addition, universities such as IGNOU and Delhi University (DU) provide fellowships to students enrolled in full-time Ph.D. programmes. Eligibility

• A full-time bachelor’s degree.
• A full-time master’s degree with at least 55% marks.
• The cut-off for SC/ST and OBCs is 50%.
• University/College mandated or national-level entrance examination.
• For a part-time Ph.D., a NOC (No Objection Certificate) is obtained from the educational institute or organization of employment.
• Some colleges/universities demand relevant work experience.

Duration

Generally, Ph.D. programmes take three to four years full-time or five to six years part-time to complete. However, it depends upon your calibre and the programme you choose.
